What We Should Have Done

We’ve had an extremely long day to make only 4 miles good to Dutch Harbor. If we could do it all over again we would have stayed where we were anchored. Hiked the trail to town, maybe organized fuel delivery, and probably had a beach picnic on yet again another beautiful sunny day.

As it turns out we woke up pulled the traps (no crabs), the wind was not as forecasted and we motored into an uncomfortable 30 knots as we rounded the north end of the volcano. Once anchored in the village we learned there is no cell phone reception, no water, but thankfully they will provide fuel.

Normally we would not need water because we would fill the tanks with the watermaker; however, we have been so close to water docks we haven’t needed to unwinterize the system from last winter, so we have been minimizing our water usage. We are on our third tank with one more tank to spare. We are crossing our fingers the weather will stay in our favor to leave Atka in two days to return to Dutch, so we’re not worried about a lack of water, but it sure would be nice to fill up another tank. Some of us are starting to get stinky, lol, just kidding!

Cheers,
Wade and Sara
