Still Waiting For Wind

The sun rose this morning filling the sky with reds, oranges, and pinks and reflecting on the glassy water. The ocean looked like a large reflecting pool with not a single ripple. Just Drifting cut through the water with ease and there was very little swell. Originally the plan was to turn towards Hawaii at the 140° longitude and equator line and then maintain a course over ground of 324°. We were pushed off the 140° longitude and the winds have been light so we have maintained a northerly course; additionally, the wind prediction still calls for light winds until around 5-7° latitude. A comforting thought for today was when we realized that we have recouped the angle to Hawaii so that if we wanted to turn towards Hawaii we probably could. We are still a little curious about the light winds so we might wait until tomorrow to make our turn and really start ticking off miles to our destination.

Today we again filled our fuel tank from jerry jugs, the last time being two days ago, and calculated that we have burned 34 gallons over the last 48 hours. Afterwards we took a break and laid out on the forward deck of the boat to catch a little sun then continued on our audio book binge. We are still waiting for wind and crossing our fingers that we will be able to cut the engine tomorrow. In the meantime, we continue to watch the wind instrument spin in circles, due to the slight rolling motion of the boat rather than any wind.

Happy Friday,
Wade and Sara
