Poor Outboard…

We had an amazing time at the warm springs and enjoyed the prefect mix between hot springs and cold waterfall water. We got all cleaned up and raised our inner body temperature.

Sara and Wade took one last dip before heading out as Justin and Jeff picked up the crab trap. Wade called the McClure Bay to pick us up on the dock Jeff hopped in the skiff, but sadly it did not start. Justin started up the engine and took the big boat to pick us up. He expertly navigated for a touch and go (no lines needed) between a couple fiberglass yachts and a 2 to 3 knot current from the river as Sara and Wade stepped on the back of the boat.

We had visions of salmon jumping onto the boat, ready to be smoked and cooked up are now starting to fade. Our first bay, Sukoi Inlet, had an amazing amount of Salmon but since then to no avail. We anchored in Cannery Cove specifically to catch salmon. Our spirits raised as we saw a few fish jump when we arrived. Wade and Justin worked on fixing the skiff outboard, but after fixing a missing screw in the carburetor and replacing a leaking fuel filter it’s a surprise the poor outboard ever ran. This may change our plans to head to Petersburg vs our original plan to head Thomas Bay and see our first glacier.

Cheers,
Wade, Sara, Justin, and Jeff
