Late Salmon Season

We heard it in Valdez, we heard it in Sitka, and again in Petersburg. This year is a tough year for salmon. Even more strange this year the fish are still in the ocean and haven’t made it in to spawn. Frank gave us the best of advice on lures and fishing spots in SE Alaska, but sometimes all of the right techniques can’t prevent bad catches. Today we slowed to 1.5 and 2 knots (for a vessel with this much torque that slow of a speed is actually challenging to maintain, but Jeff pulled it off) along the shoreline and points south of the Wrangle Narrows, but only caught a jellyfish. Sara was so dishearten because she has spent hours catching, filleting, and rigging herring and hoochie lures to no avail. After we picked up speed and got back on course to make our anchorage for the night she just went to sleep, as a 5:30 am wake up call was too early. Crossing our fingers tomorrow we will be going through a very popular channel for fishing, recommended by Justin’s boss, and around significant points.

Cheers,
Wade, Sara, Justin, and Jeff
