Sea Of Islands

Yesterday we motored 66 miles from Dolgoi Harbor to Humboldt Harbor, where we will wait out another low pressure weather system southeast of us. Joyfully the sun was intense, which when combined with no wind and glassy seas meant the temperature felt warm. The day was nice to motor through what visually appeared a sea of islands.

Again we dropped the crab trap before entering Humboldt Harbor/Sand Point. Hopefully we will do better than the 6 small crabs we got in Dolgoi. In addition, we fueled up the boat at the fuel dock before taking a slip in the marina. Greeting us to catch our lines were our Austrian friends, we met in Dutch Harbor, they invited us over for homemade salmon caviar. We were a little jealous hearing of their bear spotting a couple days ago in Volcano Bay, while we still remain bear-less. However, we expect that to change soon as we get closer to Kodiak Island.

Sand Point is a small town on the top of one large hill with one small hotel, two taverns, two coffee shops, one Chinese restaurant, one grocery store, one gas station that includes a small assortment of marine supplies, and one quick store with expired foods but had kids toys, a clinic, a school with a library, an airport, and Trident fishery. We saw it all today. The library was all the way at the top and as we have not walked in almost a week our legs were pretty sore. The people are very friendly and we gained a bit more fishing and crabbing knowledge. Hopefully we’ll get to put what we learned to good use soon.

Cheers,
Wade and Sara
