Preparing To Sail To Alaska

We have been in Honolulu almost 2 months! We had no major boat issues to make our journey to Alaska, and all we needed was some groceries. However, we made more work for ourselves. By day we have been working on boat projects and at night we spend time with friends. Where did the time go?

Week One: Organize all that we needed and wanted for the boat.

Week Two: Provision online. Our shopping list from Amazon and SailRite was nearly 8 pages long.

Week Three: We shopped for a couple of new hobbies sausage making and camping gear.

Week Four: Canned meats. Empty each compartment and reorganized the boat to make room for our new hobbies and provisions.

Week Five: Wade sewed all new cushions for the salon. Sara built a website for a friend.

Week Six: Sara’s birthday week! We did work, but really it was much-needed down time and we tested our new camping gear.

Week Seven: Grocery shopping for the next 7 months. Miscellaneous boat projects and building the garden enclosure.

Week Eight: Miscellaneous boat projects, finishing the garden enclosure, and starting the cockpit enclosure.

We originally planned to leave for Alaska at the beginning of June, but as we watched the storms march across the Gulf of Alaska we decided to wait. We both want to be safe so we hired Rick, a weather professional, to help guide us to Dutch Harbor. Rick informed us leaving now was workable, but if we could wait then he recommended waiting for the systems to settle down. We are not done with the enclosures so this works out well for us. We were thinking of leaving the Ala Wai and sailing to Kauai but found that it is much easier to work on the enclosures at the dock.  Hopefully, we’ll wrap up everything by this weekend or early next week and be on our way.

Math Be Hard For Sailors Game Update: Congrats to Bella and Pete for playing the game. We hope you enjoy your handmade pearl necklace all the way from Fakarava Tuamotu Island.

King Neptune Garden Update: We cleaned the garden well and decided to buy plants from the Home Depot instead of planting from seed. We knocked the dirt off and the plants are thriving in the hydroponic solution. We have fruited one eggplant, several tomatoes, one banana pepper, three sweet peppers, and so much kale!

Cheers,

Sara and Wade
