Na Na (Bye Bye) Society Islands

This morning, the first day of 2017, we said farewell to Tahiti, and as the “subject” of this writing sugests, “Na Na” means “good bye” in Polynesian. However, our departure this morning was not as early as we planned the night before, that being New Years Eve. Thus, at 1:15 pm today our position was 17 degrees 17.904′ South and 149 degrees 20.181′ West, which was only about 15 miles from Papeete. Our course throughout the day has averaged 45 degrees which is pinched close to an easterly wind of about 20 knots, gusting to 25.

The New Year also brought with it the catching of a fish. This fish was smaller in size, also a barracuda, and it was drowned from being drug who knows how long, but catching a fish is a good start to the year even if it is barracuda and it is also our first fish caught on hand lines. We miss the clacker of fishing poles to let us know a fish is on.

Happy New Year to everyone.

Cheers,
Wade and Sara
