We woke at 5:00 AM pulled up our anchor and headed out the Apataki south pass. Morning wind and our weather reports predicted the wind from the north, so we worked for an hour preparing to raise our downwind sail or spinnaker. The wind direction was not accurate for our preparation and we sailed close hauled most of the day.
Between Apataki and Fakarava is a little atoll called Toau. As we were passing Taou we looked up passage information in Charles Charts and found that Taou was seasonally uninhabited and the passage has dangerous currents except in calm weather. Around 1 pm we came close to the eastern pass and there were no breaking waves and the weather was perfect for such a transit through the pass. The adventure in our hearts took hold and we turned into the pass and anchored in Toau. We anchored south of the pass in a beautiful area that was uninhabited. Our afternoon was wonderful snorkeling and Wade speared another parrot fish for dinner.
Boat Position: 15 degrees 56.720 minutes south and 145 degrees 52.995 minutes west.
Cheers,
Wade and Sara
