We arrived at St. Paul Marina Kodiak Island just in time to miss the heavy winds. The following day we searched the town on foot in the pouring rain for a new water pump for our reverse air conditioning (boat heater) to no avail, so we have a new pump on order. The rain has gone and the days have turned sunny. We have met again the nicest people. Everyone is helpful and a wealth of information. One of our relationships began in May before sailing from Honolulu. Sara called the local Audubon Kodiak Hiking group to ask about hiking gear and bear protection. Cindy spoke of friends that were familiar with cruising around the island during summer vacations and we asked to pass on our information. Without a doubt Cy and LA have been so wonderful. Not only have they been helping us as we’ve made our trip to Kodiak but we final had the chance to meet. We shared a lovely dinner and talked story. The sailing cruising community truly is a wonderful experience. Another of our Hawaiian cruising companions is off to Valdez today, but we are excited to receive our newest crew member by airplane today. Wade’s mom Marj has come to visit us for a couple of weeks so we are excited to take a break from any heavy sailing and explore Kodiak area.
For those dealing with Hurricane Irma and the aftermath our hearts go out to you. Please be safe.
Cheers,
Wade and Sara
