Feeding Birds

We lost a cedar plug and the next one we put on actually split, so we are now on a third cedar plug. However, we still caught two Albacore tunas, 45 and 35 lbs. Five zip lock quart sized packages of steaks were pu in the freezer, we saved some back for sushi, and then we canned 14 jars. Yum yum. While Wade expertly cleaned both fish the birds started to catch on that we were throwing fish meat overboard. We tried to time it so the fish piece would hit the water as one was flying nearby because we didn’t want it to sink so fast that they were not able to grab the little hunks. Funny enough there were little brown birds that would dive in the water so deep that several seconds would go by before they would resurface. Upon resurfacing the brown bird would start to enjoy the tasty treat, but sometimes a bigger white and brown bird would come over and take the hunk of meat or skin. The birds would squabble back and forth for the hunks of meat. This was entertaining for a while during fish cleaning.

The sun peaks out ever so often for a short moment, but the outside temperature is 58 degrees and the brutal humidity has been around 75% to 80%. Burrrr. We have been motoring in north winds as the wind cannot make up it’s mind if it wants to be from the west or east.

Over the last 24 hours we made 124 miles good towards Dutch Harbor.

Cheers,
Wade and Sara
