King Neptune’s Garden

A 2 tier fill and drain hydroponic garden, I’ve named King Neptune’s Garden. We have a 24 gallon reservoir in a boat lazarette that holds the water and fertilizer. We have a marine pump that is connected to a 16 time a day auto timer; that pumps water for a minute or two to the top tier then gravity drains to the second tier then gravity drains back to the reservoir tank.
The system holds 18 plants. I typically grow big beef tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, mini sweet peppers, basil, rosemary, thyme, mint, and kale (I have terrible luck with oregano but try every year).
Our garden’s started with a different experiment called Poseidon’s Garden. The theory of Poseidon’s Garden was that plants could live in a non-circulating hydroponic system and the agitation of the boat movement would provide enough oxygen to the plant root system. The theory approved effective; however, we stopped using Poseidon’s Garden because it was not fixed to the boat and swinging projectiles underway can cause bumps on the head.
Below are a collection of Noon Reports that we report the condition of the garden. Please contact us if you have more questions. Always happy to help!
