We pulled up anchor this morning and we motored around the southern end of Tahiti. The wind and waves picked up so we wrapped King Neptune’s Garden in plastic to protect it from the sea spray. Traveling the south end of Tahiti is beautiful with steep mountain peaks. Sections of the southern end are open to the ocean and not protected by a reef, no wonder no one lives there. On the south east side of Tahiti Iti there is no road between Teahupoo and Tautira village. The people that do live there only reach their house by boat. Most of the land is family land and generally only visited on the weekend. We anchored next to a large cliff face so several hours before the sun had fully set we were almost in total darkness.
After anchored we went exploring because yesterday with Jackie and Ryan we had almost reached this little motu so we decided to explore it today. The main section of the motu was private but pretty impressive with a satellite dish on the top of the roof and a observation deck overlooking the reef. This was probably the nicest house we’ve seen on any motu we’ve passed thus far. As we approached we waved to friendly locals that pointed us in the right direction to beach our dinghy at a sand bank near the motu. The current was very strong and water rushed between the motu and the sand bank but we dodged the breaking waves and beached the dinghy safely. We found a few pretty shells and admired the coral and named the beach S&W. We headed back to the boat for dinner and had a relaxing evening.
