Wade found a rock in his field that looked like a small rock but when he tried to pick it up, it wouldn’t budge. He started to dig around it to see how big it was and he uncovered 9’ x 5’ and more than 5’ deep. We say more than because we never found the bottom of the rock and he stopped digging a little more than 5’ or 6’.
The first thought was to dig a bigger hole next to the rock and roll it in but the problem was after 5 and 6 feet Wade was below the water table for the area so the hole just kept filling with water. Wade’s brother, Leigh, came up with the idea to chisel the top of the rock, so at least farm equipment for planting and harvesting the field wouldn’t hit the rock. After a couple of days of chiseling not more than a foot or 2 came off the rock but at least he could bury it.
The rock will continue to work its way up but maybe in a couple of years we can bury it deeper.
We had posted on Facebook and contacted granite companies to find out if they wanted it but as it turns out they didn’t because the granite could be rotten, so our dreams of a beautiful granite countertop fluttered away.
