Twice No Moon

Every sailor tells tales of the beautiful lit night sky with a bright moon and twinkling stars, not even a picture can give it justice. If this was our first sail then we could easily think someone has been pulling our leg because it has been black, really black, so black it would be hard to see the hand in front of your face. Sure there is the glow from both multifunction displays, the navigation lights, and solar Christmas lights that put out a light glow, but turn everything off and it’s eerier how dark the open ocean can be on a passage.

Not only has this passage been dark but there has not been a boat in sight either visually or by radar until this morning. We identified a tanker with a Honolulu heading 12 nautical miles off our starboard.

As for the weather we have had Simpson (the TV cartoon) clouds which are a sign of good weather.

We both give our first book of the trip, Clive Cussler, and Thomas Perry, The Mayan Secrets, 4 stars out of 5 for an entertaining read.

King Neptune’s garden has had a bit of trouble. Out of the 18 plants, we were growing only 8 might potentially still make it. We have learned that the fill and drain system does not work underway so we are watering it like Poseidon’s which is by hand.

Poseidon’s Garden has two plants that are doing very well.

Fun Fact: The to be rescued by a US Coast Guard helicopter you would need to be within 200 nautical miles.
