going no-wheres fast

Over the last 24 hours we made 14 miles towards our destination of Dutch Harbor. Yes that is no typo, 14 miles. The wind switched to 20 knots out of the north, the direction we want to go, but cannot sail. And because the wind is suppose to switch to the northwest in a day or so, we figured we best sail west, which is actually putting us farther from Dutch Harbor. Thus over the last day we have probably sailed well over a 125 miles, that being to the west and tomorrow’s post may read that we have actually increased our distance to Dutch Harbor. We cannot see Russia yet, but that is the direction of our travel.

Yesterday we mentioned that we caught two albacore tuna, but we failed to mention that we lost three tuna. And it is surprising we caught the two fish we did because we later noticed that we forgot to take the plastic protector off the hook tip of the new cedar plug we started using. The lure got hit so many times by fish yesterday that the wood of the lure is actually cracked. Today was more rough sea conditions and we were tired of canning fish so we gave fishing a break for the day.

Generally the sky was overcast, but at brief times the sun would peak out and warm things up. It is odd that in just a few minutes the sky goes from not a cloud to entirely overcast, sort of like the clouds are an upper level fog that comes and goes. It is still a chilly 56 degree air and water temperature.

Cheers,
Wade and Sara
