Fishing Pole Thieves in Bora Bora

For the first time in six years Just Drifting was the victim of theft! On a mooring ball in front of the Mai Kai Marina and during the night while we were asleep someone came alongside the boat and stole not one but all three of our ocean fishing poles. Normally we keep the poles stored behind the dinghy but as we were in “safe” Bora Bora and planning to make an early departure the fishing poles rested in their cradles tied to the lifelines. Wade was so broken hearted because one of his favorite hobbies is fishing. There was not much we could do because we were leaving for Raiatea. We did reach out to the French Polynesia Cruising SSB Net, 8173, to warn other cruisers to lock up their stuff. Later over VHF we found out a month before we arrived a large catamaran also had fishing poles stolen and at the wharf a dinghy was stolen. All in all this has opened our eyes and it’s sad that we had to leave such a beautiful place with such sour thoughts.

Locks are to keep honest people out

Update from previous post:
* Wade’s finger is healed up and doing much better, he got a second ear infection but has recovered, now he’s battling a flu like bug, and soreness from our hike two days ago. * Sara just got over a the same bug and extremely sore from hiking two days ago. Both of us are taking it easy and resting.
* We were able to do software updates with the internet connection we had in Bora Bora and fixed our chart plotter and charts.
