Bearly Searching

We arrived at our anchorage Captain’s Harbor on the Alaska Peninsula around 3:30 PM. We heard from locals and other cruisers this is a great spot that is well protected and an excellent bear viewing. As we searched the shores before anchoring sadly we saw no bears, but a lot of salmon and birds. We were both tired from the overnight trip, so we decided to “bearly” search and stayed in for the night.

We haven’t really anchored since the Marquesas so it is nice to have this peaceful anchorage all to ourselves. There are mountains surrounding the anchorage with a little river flowing into the bay. There is a spit blocking any swell from the entering the anchorage and so we are very comfortable.

Each day we pull weather, we are starting to notice the low pressure systems are lining up and the weather windows are narrowing to two to three days between each systems. As there are not a lot of cruising guides for Alaska we learned a lot from the locals in Dutch Harbor and so our possible next stop is Sand Point. Hopefully after we find bears.

Cheers,
Wade and Sara
